Running the Grokipedia Playbook: What We Found

We recently published a guide explaining how the Grokipedia correction strategy works — find a factual error on a Grokipedia page, publish authoritative content that addresses it, submit a correction with your source URL, and earn a backlink when the correction is accepted. The post included BrassTranscripts' case study as the proof of concept.

Then we ran the playbook ourselves.

This is the execution report: what pages we searched, what claims we found, what qualified as a genuine correction, what didn't — and the one submission we actually made.

How We Searched

Grokipedia blocks automated crawlers — a direct fetch returns a 403. The workaround: use Google's search results to read Grokipedia page content from indexed snippets. We searched for approximately 12 pages covering topics where Brass-SEO has published authoritative content: bounce rate, Google Search Console, generative engine optimization, answer engine optimization, link building, and SEO ROI.

The filter we applied to each page: is there a specific claim that is factually wrong or materially incomplete, and do we have a published Brass-SEO post that directly addresses it with cited sources? Both conditions had to be true. An unsourced statistic alone is not enough — we needed a source post that provided the correct information, not just a challenge to the existing claim.


The Four Candidates We Found

Searching those pages surfaced four potential corrections.

Bounce Rate Page

Claim: "bounce rate as the percentage of non-engaged sessions—those lasting under 10 seconds without interactions"

The problem: GA4's engaged session definition has three independent criteria, and a session is engaged if it meets any one of them: the visitor stayed more than 10 seconds, viewed 2 or more pages or screens, or triggered a conversion event. The Grokipedia definition omits the page-view criterion entirely. A user who browses 5 pages in 8 seconds with no conversion event would be classified as a "bounce" under the stated definition. In GA4, that user is engaged because they viewed 2+ pages.

Assessment: Solid correction. The claim is specifically wrong, not just imprecise, and our source post directly addresses it.

Google Search Console Page

Claim: impressions are "limited to the default top 10 positions per page as of September 2025 following the removal of the num=100 parameter"

The problem (or not): We initially flagged this as inaccurate because GSC reports impression data for positions beyond 10. But after checking how the num=100 parameter actually worked, the picture became more nuanced. Before September 2025, the num=100 parameter allowed browsers and tools to display 100 search results on one page — meaning pages in positions 11-100 all generated impressions from a single page view. With the parameter removed and results limited to 10 per page by default, pages in positions 11+ only generate impressions if a user actively navigates to page 2 or beyond. The effect on impression counts for lower-ranking pages was significant and documented.

Assessment: Pulled. The claim is imprecise but captures something real. Not a clear enough factual error to submit.

Answer Engine Optimization Page

Claim: "87% of B2B buyers use AI chatbots for research" — no source cited

The problem: The figure circulates widely without a traceable primary source. Unsourced statistics on an AI knowledge base are a legitimate correction target.

Assessment: Not viable. To submit a correction, we need a source post that provides the correct information or a primary source for the actual figure. Our GEO posts cover citation strategies and research methodology, but none address B2B buyer AI research behavior specifically. Without a matching source, we have no correction to submit.

SEO ROI Page

Claim: "average ROI of $22 per dollar spent" for SEO investments — no source cited

Assessment: Deferred. The figure is widely repeated in the SEO industry with disputed origins. We don't have a Brass-SEO post that examines this specific statistic with primary sources. This becomes viable if and when we publish a post on SEO investment ROI with cited data.


The One Correction We Submitted

We submitted one correction: the bounce rate page.

The bounce rate case was stronger than most for one specific reason. The Grokipedia page includes a footnote on its definition, and that footnote links to Google's official GA4 documentation at support.google.com/analytics/answer/12195621. That page states clearly that an engaged session requires any one of: "10 seconds or longer, has 1 or more conversion events, or has 2 or more page or screen views."

The Grokipedia definition cites Google's documentation as its source while omitting one of the three criteria that source explicitly states. That makes the correction unusually clean: the evidence that the page is incomplete is the page's own footnote.

The correction we submitted:

"This definition is incomplete. Per Google's own documentation (support.google.com/analytics/answer/12195621 — the source cited in the footnote), an engaged session is any session that lasts 10 seconds or longer, OR has 1+ conversion events, OR has 2+ page/screen views. The 'or 2+ page views' criterion is missing from the current definition. A user who views 5 pages in 8 seconds with no conversion event is engaged in GA4 — not a bounce. Status as of April 17, 2026: Pending. Grokipedia corrections go through a review process. We will update this post if the correction is accepted.


What Didn't Qualify and Why

Four candidates, one submission. That ratio reflects how the strategy actually works, not a flaw in the approach.

The BrassTranscripts execution — the case study in our Grokipedia corrections guide — started from a single specific claim they had already spent three weeks researching. They knew the "98% Whisper accuracy" figure was wrong before they searched Grokipedia for it. They found it, submitted a correction citing the post they had already published, and the match was exact.

The more common pattern when running this proactively (starting from Grokipedia rather than from existing research) is that most pages you check either have claims that are defensible once you investigate them, or have gaps you cannot fill because you do not yet have the right source content. The strategy rewards preparation — it works best when you already have deeply researched content on a specific claim, then go looking for where that claim is wrong on Grokipedia.

What the proactive search is useful for: it reveals content gaps. The AEO candidate showed us we do not have a post on B2B AI research adoption that cites primary sources. That is now a known content opportunity. The SEO ROI candidate showed us the same for SEO investment data. These become future posts that also happen to enable future corrections.


What This Tells You About the Strategy

A few observations from running this:

Start from your strongest content, not from Grokipedia. The productive direction is to take your most research-backed posts and then search for where those specific claims appear incorrectly on Grokipedia. Running it the other way — searching Grokipedia first and then looking for matching content — surfaces more candidates but most will not have a matching source post.

The correction needs to cite something better, not just challenge something wrong. "This statistic has no source" is not a correction. "Here is the correct information, here is the primary source, and here is a detailed post that explains it" is a correction. The bar is: could you defend this to an editor at a trade publication?

The platform's credibility issues do not disqualify the strategy. Grokipedia's Google traffic collapsed in February 2026 after growing to 3.2 million monthly clicks in January. The backlink value from a correction is uncertain given this. But two things remain true: the platform is still live on X's infrastructure, and the correction skills transfer directly to other AI knowledge bases — Perplexity Pages, Wikipedia, any AI-generated reference content where accuracy matters. Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Grokipedia correction take to be reviewed?

There is no published timeline. The BrassTranscripts correction from November 2025 has not been publicly confirmed as accepted or rejected. We will update this post with our own outcome when we have one.

Do you need to have a high-authority domain to get corrections accepted?

The correction process does not appear to gate submissions by domain authority. What matters is the quality of the source content — whether it cites primary sources and directly addresses the specific claim. A focused, well-sourced post on a specific topic from a lower-authority domain can outperform a generic page from a high-authority site.

What if the Grokipedia page doesn't have a clear factual error, just vague language?

The correction process accepts both corrections (something stated wrong) and enhancements (missing context or sourcing). If a page makes a claim that is technically defensible but lacks quantification or source attribution, you can submit an enhancement that adds specificity with your source URL. That is a lower bar than proving something is factually incorrect.

Can the same approach work on other platforms?

Yes. Perplexity Pages accepts corrections and cites sources. Wikipedia accepts edits with appropriate sourcing (with stricter reliability requirements for the sources themselves). Any AI-generated or collaboratively edited knowledge base that accepts corrections and attributes sources is a version of this strategy. Grokipedia is the lowest-friction starting point because the submission process is straightforward.

What if Grokipedia accepts the correction but doesn't include our URL?

That would mean the correction was applied without attribution. This is a risk with any correction platform. The mitigation is to submit corrections where your source URL is genuinely the most useful reference for the specific claim — not a generic homepage link, but the specific post that addresses the specific error. That makes your URL the natural citation.
