The SEO Tool Gap Nobody Talks About
Every SEO tool I looked at was either free and confusing, or powerful and $500/month. Neither made sense for most of my clients.
I run an advertising agency. Over the years I have set up Google Search Console and Google Analytics for dozens of clients. Almost none of them ever log back in.
They care about rankings. They just don't want to learn a new piece of software to check them.

The Expensive End
The enterprise platforms are genuinely powerful. Semrush starts at $139.95/month for its Pro plan. Ahrefs starts at $129/month for Lite. Both offer backlink databases, keyword research tools, rank tracking, competitor analysis, and site crawlers with hundreds of features.
See our detailed comparisons of Brass-SEO vs Semrush and Brass-SEO vs Ahrefs.
They are built for SEO professionals managing multiple clients. That is their audience and they serve it well.
Most small business owners sign up, feel overwhelmed within a week, and cancel. They needed to know which title tag to rewrite. Instead they got a dashboard with 47 tabs.
| Platform | Starting Price | Target User | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semrush Pro | $139.95/month | SEO professionals, agencies | Backlinks, competitor research, rank tracking, site audit, 40+ tools |
| Ahrefs Lite | $129/month | SEO professionals, content marketers | Backlinks, keyword explorer, site audit, rank tracking |
| Moz Pro | $99/month | SEO teams | Domain authority, keyword research, link analysis |

These are not bad tools. They are the wrong tools for a business owner who wants to know what to do next.
The Free End
On the other end, Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 are free and contain everything you need to understand your search performance.
Our GA4 traffic report guide walks through what the data means.
GSC tells you how Google sees your site: which queries bring impressions, which ones get clicks, where you rank, and whether your pages are indexed. GA4 tells you what happens after someone arrives: sessions, engagement rate, bounce rate, and where traffic comes from.
The data is there. The problem is the interface.
GSC assumes you already know what "impressions without clicks at position 8" means for your business. GA4 replaced bounce rate with engagement rate and reorganized everything in a way that confuses even experienced marketers. Neither tool connects to the other. You cannot ask "which pages rank well but lose visitors immediately?" without pulling data from both dashboards and combining it yourself.
For a business owner with an hour a week for marketing, that is not realistic.
The Gap in the Middle
There is a category of SEO tool that barely exists: something that costs less than $50/month, uses your actual Google data, and tells you what to do in language you understand.
Most tools in the $20-50 range are either:
- Lightweight rank trackers that check a handful of keywords daily
- Page graders that score your site on a checklist without your actual performance data
- Content tools focused on writing, not analysis
None of them connect to both GSC and GA4 and cross-reference the data to answer the questions business owners actually ask.
What the Middle Actually Needs
After watching dozens of clients ignore their SEO dashboards, I started keeping a list of what they actually wanted to know. The same questions came up repeatedly:
- What should I fix first?
- Why did my traffic change?
- Which pages are doing well and why?
- What keywords am I close to ranking for?
- Is this page even showing up on Google?
These are not complex SEO questions. They are business questions that happen to require SEO data. The answers exist in GSC and GA4, but getting to them requires navigating two separate tools, knowing which reports to pull, and interpreting the numbers correctly.
That is the gap. Not a feature gap. An interpretation gap.
What Brass-SEO Does
Brass-SEO connects to both Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 via read-only OAuth. Both data sources are required. Setup takes about two minutes.
For the full walkthrough, see how Brass-SEO works.
Then you ask questions in plain English through a conversational AI interface. Not pre-written queries from a dropdown. Actual questions:
- "What keywords am I close to ranking for?"
- "Why did my traffic drop this week?"
- "What should I fix first on my pricing page?"
- "Which pages have high impressions but nobody is clicking?"
The AI pulls your real data from both GSC and GA4, cross-references it, and gives you specific answers. Not generic SEO advice you could find in any blog post. Specific: "Your title tag on /services is 23 characters. Your primary keyword does not appear in it. Here is a suggestion that includes the keyword and stays under 60 characters."
The tool includes 11 one-click reports that cover common analysis tasks: full site health checks, keyword performance, content gaps, declining pages, page audits, AI traffic tracking, and more.
What It Does Not Do
Being honest about scope matters more than a feature list.
Brass-SEO does not have a backlink database. It cannot tell you what keywords your competitors rank for. It does not do rank tracking over time. It does not crawl your entire site at once.
If you manage SEO for an agency with 50 clients and need competitive intelligence, Semrush or Ahrefs is the right tool. They are expensive because they maintain massive data infrastructure. That is a different product for a different user.
Brass-SEO is for the business owner who has a website, has GSC and GA4 set up, and wants to know: what should I do next?
The Feature That Does Not Exist Elsewhere
A growing share of search traffic now comes from AI systems. When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Claude a question, these tools cite sources. Whether your page gets cited depends on specific, measurable content traits.
Research published on Search Engine Land found that 72% of blog posts cited by ChatGPT share a particular formatting pattern: self-contained answer sentences placed directly after headings. Over 91% of cited passages contained no outbound links. More than half included original data.
The AI Citability Report scores your page against ten of these research-backed factors. It tells you which factors your page already handles well and gives you specific rewrites for the ones it does not. This is Generative Engine Optimization — GEO — and most businesses have not started thinking about it yet.
No other tool in this price range combines traditional SEO analysis with AI citability auditing using your actual Google data.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is $25/month worth it if GSC and GA4 are free?
You can read GSC and GA4 manually for free. The question is whether the time you spend navigating the interfaces, switching between tools, and interpreting data is worth more than $25 a month. Brass-SEO does not replace your Google data. It interprets it, cross-references it, and tells you what to do about it.
How is this different from other cheap SEO tools?
Most tools under $50/month are rank trackers or page graders. They check a keyword list or score your site on a checklist. Brass-SEO connects to both GSC and GA4, pulls your real performance data, and answers questions conversationally. It also includes AI citability auditing, which is not available in any other tool at this price point.
Do I need SEO experience to use it?
No. The AI explains findings in plain language and gives specific next steps. You do not need to know what CTR, impressions, or bounce rate mean — the tool explains the data in context. It is designed for business owners and marketers, not SEO specialists.
Can I audit pages on sites I do not own?
The AI can fetch and analyze on-page elements of any publicly accessible URL. However, GSC and GA4 cross-referencing only works for sites you have connected through your own Google accounts.
What if the AI cannot access my page?
Some websites use firewalls or bot protection that block automated crawling. When this happens, the AI explains the situation and offers two alternatives: analyzing the page using your GSC and GA4 data, or you can paste the page content directly into the chat. Brass-SEO also works with JavaScript-rendered sites built on platforms like Wix, Squarespace, and React.
