10 Guerilla SEO Moves You Can Run This Week

Ten guerilla SEO tactics. Each one can be executed in under 90 minutes with AI tooling. Each one has a measurable outcome inside a 30-day window. None require a tool stack over $150 per month.

This is the tactical follow-up to Guerilla SEO: The 2026 Playbook. The playbook explains the philosophy. This post is the to-do list. Pick three. Run them this week.

Quick Navigation

Move 1: The 30-Minute Title Tag Sprint

A title tag sprint rewrites the title tags on 5–10 high-impression, low-CTR pages in a single sitting, using AI to generate candidates and judgment to pick winners. Brass-SEO sees a median CTR lift of 15–40% on pages handled this way (matches the published ranges in Ahrefs' 2024 CTR data).

The process:

  1. Pull GSC Performance → Pages, last 28 days. Sort by impressions descending. Filter for CTR below 2%.
  2. Pick 5 pages from the top of that list.
  3. For each, paste the page URL, current title, and top 3 GSC queries into ChatGPT or Claude with this prompt: "Write 5 title tag candidates under 55 characters that lead with the query keyword and add a specific angle. The page is about [topic]."
  4. Pick the one that fits brand voice.
  5. Update the page, note the date.

Time: 30 minutes for 5 pages. Result window: 28–35 days. The next month's GSC report tells you which moves worked.

For the data behind why title rewrites lift CTR, see Title Tags and CTR: What the Public Data Shows.

Move 2: The Striking-Distance Push

Striking-distance keywords are queries where a page ranks positions 4–20. Google already considers the page relevant. A small content optimization can push it onto page 1. The math is asymmetric: a position-15 page moving to position-5 typically triples its clicks.

The process:

  1. In GSC, Performance → Queries. Filter by position 4–20 with at least 100 impressions in the last 28 days.
  2. For each query, identify the ranking page.
  3. Paste the page content + query + top 3 ranking competitors into Claude or ChatGPT: "What's missing from my page compared to the ranking page 1 results? Be specific about content gaps."
  4. Add the missing content blocks. Don't rewrite the whole page; surgical additions only.
  5. Recrawl via GSC URL Inspection or wait for natural re-crawl.

Time: 45 minutes per page. Run on 3 pages this week. Result window: 4–8 weeks.

Brass-SEO has the Brass-SEO Opportunities button that surfaces striking-distance queries directly without the manual GSC navigation. See Finding Your Best SEO Opportunities.

Many sites mention your brand without linking. Each unlinked mention is a potential backlink that requires 5 minutes of outreach. Brass-SEO recommends running this hunt quarterly.

The process:

  1. Search Google for "yourbrand" -site:yourbrand.com to find external pages mentioning your brand
  2. Use the link: operator or Ahrefs' free backlink check (or paid alternative) to filter out pages that already link to you
  3. The remaining list is your hunt target: pages that mention you without linking
  4. Email the author with a short note: "Saw you mentioned [brand]. We have a related guide here that might be useful for readers: [link]"

Expected conversion rate from published outreach studies: 5–15% become links. From a list of 30 unlinked mentions, expect 2–5 new backlinks. Time: 90 minutes including the searches and emails. Result window: 2–6 weeks for the responses.

Move 4: The PAA Capture Play

People Also Ask (PAA) boxes appear on a large share of Google SERPs for informational queries. Pages cited in PAA boxes earn impressions and clicks even when they don't rank position 1 organically. The structure that wins PAA citations is well-documented: a clear question heading immediately followed by a 40–60 word direct answer.

The process:

  1. Use a free PAA scraper or Google "People also ask" + your target query manually
  2. Collect the 5–8 PAA questions for your topic
  3. Add an FAQ section to your existing page with those exact questions as H3s
  4. Each answer: 40–60 words, direct, no marketing fluff, contains the answer in the first sentence
  5. Add FAQ schema markup pointing to those H3 questions

Time: 60 minutes per topic cluster. Result window: 2–4 weeks for Google to recrawl and start surfacing your page in PAA.

For the broader PAA strategy, see Rank in Google's People Also Ask Boxes and What Are People Also Ask Boxes?.

Most small-business sites have orphan pages (pages with zero internal links) and dead-end pages (pages with no outgoing internal links). Both are SEO-suboptimal. A 60-minute audit identifies the worst offenders and fixes the top 20.

The process:

  1. Crawl your site with Screaming Frog free tier (500 URLs) or use a Claude Code script (see post 3 in this series)
  2. Export the URL list with internal link counts
  3. Identify pages with 0 or 1 internal link pointing to them. These are your orphans.
  4. For each orphan, find 2–3 related pages that should link to it. Add the links.
  5. Identify your top 10 highest-impression pages (from GSC). Make sure each has 3–5 outbound internal links to related content.

Time: 60 minutes. Result window: 4–12 weeks for ranking effects, but immediate effects on crawl prioritization.

For the broader internal linking framework, see Internal Linking: The Free SEO Tactic You're Ignoring.

Move 6: The Competitor Capsule Heist

Pages that win AI citations share a structural pattern: answer capsules after each H2. Many competitor pages have weak capsules or none at all. Auditing their structure reveals exactly where your version of the same content can win citations they're losing.

The process:

  1. Pick your highest-impression page where you rank positions 4–10
  2. Pull the top 3 organic ranking pages for that query
  3. For each competitor page, paste the content into Claude with: "Identify the first 1–2 sentences after each H2 heading. Score each section 1–5 on whether the opening sentences could stand alone as a citable answer."
  4. Find sections where competitors score 1–2 (weak capsules)
  5. On your page, write strong capsules (4–5 score) for the same H2s

Time: 90 minutes per target page. Result window: 4–8 weeks for AI surfaces to recrawl and update citations.

For the underlying citation research, see Why ChatGPT Cites Some Pages and Skips Others and Part 1: Answer Capsules.

Move 7: GSC Query Mining for Content Ideas

Your existing GSC data contains content ideas your competitors don't have access to. The query report shows what people are searching for that brings them to your site, including queries you don't have dedicated pages for. Each of those is a content gap you can fill.

The process:

  1. GSC Performance → Queries, last 90 days, sort by impressions descending
  2. Filter for queries with 100+ impressions where you rank positions 11–30
  3. For each, check whether you have a dedicated page (a page where that query is the primary topic)
  4. The queries without dedicated pages are your content ideas list

Brass-SEO automates this with the Brass-SEO Content Gaps button. See Finding Content Gaps Without a $200/Month Tool.

Time: 30 minutes to mine, then variable for content creation. Result window: 6–12 weeks per new piece.

Move 8: The Forum Topic Hijack

Niche forums and Reddit subreddits often discuss topics where your content would be useful. A topic hijack is the legitimate practice of finding active threads on topics you've written about and contributing the link with substantive context.

The process:

  1. Search Reddit (or Discord, Slack communities, niche forums) for your target topic
  2. Filter for threads active in the past 30 days with 10+ comments
  3. Read the thread. If your content genuinely answers a question being asked, post a substantive comment with your link
  4. Substantive means: 3–5 sentences of actual context, not "Here's a link!"

Time: 60 minutes for 10 thread engagements. Result window: immediate referral traffic + indirect SEO benefit from co-citation signals.

The line to avoid: don't drop links on threads where they don't fit. Mods will remove the comment and you'll burn the account. Hijack means relevance, not volume.

Move 9: The Reverse Image Search Linkback

Original images you've published (charts, diagrams, screenshots) often get used by other publishers without attribution. A reverse image search finds these uses, and a polite outreach often converts them to backlinks.

The process:

  1. Pick 5 original images from your highest-traffic posts
  2. Right-click each in Chrome → "Search image with Google"
  3. The result shows other pages using the image
  4. For each unauthorized use, email the publisher: "I saw you used our [image type] from [your URL]. Happy for you to use it — just asking that you add a link to the source. Thanks."

Expected conversion: 30–50% of polite requests are granted. From 20 reverse-image finds, expect 6–10 new backlinks. Time: 60 minutes including searches and emails.

This works best for original visual content. Stock-photo reuse doesn't count.

Move 10: The Quarterly AI Visibility Test

The previous nine moves optimize for traditional SEO. The tenth optimizes for what's increasingly the next layer: AI surface visibility. Run this test quarterly to track whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude are starting to cite your brand.

The process:

  1. Build a list of 20–30 queries where your brand should plausibly be cited
  2. Run each query on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude in fresh sessions
  3. Record whether your brand was cited, where, and which competitors appeared
  4. Compare quarter-over-quarter

Brass-SEO uses this method internally. See How to Test Your Brand's AI Search Visibility for the full quarterly playbook.

Time: 90 minutes per quarter. Result window: 90–180 days for trend lines to appear.

How to Sequence These Moves

Trying to run all ten in a week is the wrong move. Pick three this week, based on your bottleneck:

  • If GSC impressions are high but CTR is low: Moves 1, 4, 6
  • If you have content but it doesn't rank: Moves 2, 5, 7
  • If rankings are fine but no backlinks: Moves 3, 8, 9
  • If you want to start AI optimization: Moves 6, 10, plus the GEO guide

Run three. Measure them. Pick three more next month. Compound the wins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need all ten tools the moves reference?

No. Most moves work with just Google Search Console (free), Google Analytics 4 (free), and one AI assistant (ChatGPT or Claude). Brass-SEO ($25/month) accelerates several moves by surfacing the GSC data conversationally rather than via manual export. None of the moves require Semrush or Ahrefs.

What if I only have time for one move?

Move 1 (the title tag sprint). It has the shortest feedback loop (28–35 days), the highest measurable impact per hour invested, and the lowest skill requirement.

Can I run these moves on a brand-new site with no traffic?

Moves 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7 all depend on existing GSC data, which a new site won't have. For a new site, focus on Moves 3 (backlinks), 8 (forum), and 9 (image reuse) to start. Once you have 90 days of GSC data, the others open up.

How do I know which moves actually worked?

Each move has a measurement window. After 30–60 days, pull GSC Performance for the affected pages and compare against the prior period of equal length. Moves that produced no measurable change get killed; moves that worked get repeated on more pages.

What's the biggest risk with this approach?

Doing all ten moves with no measurement. A guerilla SEO operator who runs ten moves but doesn't track which ones worked learns nothing. Pick three, measure them, then repeat. The measurement discipline is more valuable than any single tactic.
